My friend's daughter made this a regular destination on our recent visit to Honolulu. She was fortunate enough to get a one-on-one surfing lesson for the price of a group lesson due to a cancellation and loved the instruction given. Upon returning for other items such as snorkels, and long board rentals, the staff always gave my own daughter a boogie board of her own to use on the beach at no charge. Due to this excellent service we ended up spending more time and money here than anticipated. The staff at Big Wave Dave Surf Co. really care about their customers and it shows with the large positive feedback on Google. Thanks for making our vacation so amazing!

My 11 and 16 year old daughters wanted a surf lesson. I paid $50 per person for a group lesson. Semi Private is $75. Private is $100. A group that went out right before us was 7 people. We went out 45 min later with 3 people. So the size of the group lesson seems to vary depending on demand. Our instructor was an older guy that seemed to know what he was doing, but didn't give a lot of specific instruction. It was basic and the girls were give about 10 minutes dry land practice before going out to the waves. Where the girls were taken was FULL of other surfers. My kids spent the majority of their time trying to avoid collision with others also learning or trying to show off. Also in the same area of the ocean there were people going back in forth in rented canoes and other boats. One canoe even went over a couple of the surfers, resulting in injury. It was chaotic for the girls to learn or enjoy their time.

Awesome time, thank you so much Josh and Dave! We started out with an outrigger paddle. So much fun! Dave is very nice and really into it. He gave us instructions and guided us the whole time. We even got an extra ride. After doing the outrigger my husband and I got surfing lessons from Josh. First of all, Josh is a great guy! He’s super sweet and was very patient with us in the water. His instructions were very detailed and very clear. Even though my husband and I have surfed before, it’s been about 30 years so Josh made sure we were fully comfortable before heading out into the water. What a blast. We both stood up on our first try. We did also wipe out a couple of times, which oddly enough was also fun. The staff is the BEST! I regret not getting the names of everyone at the shop. The girls were so great to us. We were starving after our day in the water and they gave us part of their lunch. Where else does that happen?? Also, much to our surprise they have a coffee bar where we had excellent Americanos. Finally, they offer a picture and video package. They have a photographer on the beach that captures all your greatest (and worst) moments. After reviewing the day’s photos and video we decided it was totally worth $100 for all pictures and video on a flash drive. We HIGHLY recommend, if you are visiting Waikiki, to do the outrigger and surfing lessons and really anything else they have to offer. MAHALO to the team at Big Wave Dave’s. You really made our vacation much more special!
