If you are looking for a good way to get to know the city of Birmingham and aren't too afraid of things that go bump in the night, the Birmingham Ghost Walk tour is a great way to get to know the city.
Our tour guide David (who dresses the part and is very knowledgeable) does a great job of framing many of the historical events of the city with possible spooky locations and explanations of what happened at these locals. He mixes in discussions on architecture, current day Birmingham politics, and the evolving culture of the area into his stories so that you walk away with a good sense of what type of city Birmingham is.
This is definitely a longer walking tour, but our entire family (including two teenage sons) enjoyed the full two hours as we roamed around the financial and tourist district of Birmingham. David was good about stopping for pictures, ensuring that everyone could hear him, and setting just the right tone so that the tour remained light hearted even when we were discussing some of the harsher stories of death and mayhem.
The tour sizes can vary dramatically (our tour got upwards of twenty people but they can also be smaller around seven to ten folks) but it is all outdoors and there is plenty of room to social distance if needed.
Would highly recommend this tour both for people new to the Birmingham area as we were, or those looking to learn a little more about some of the buildings that they pass by every day and may not know the true stories behind them.
