This was my first Escape Room experience ever! I am 35 and a Professor at a northern, midwestern University. First off, I absolutely loved the Zombie scenario! It was really full of different puzzles, light and sound effects, and a wonderful prop/environment setup. The narrative made the game feel so much more alive due to the time pressure that it has. But, the overall BEST part of this experience was the crew (Gamemaster and Hosts) that were working with us during the game. If you have the chance to work with Lilo, Joseph, and Josh - you will have the most hilarious time! I danced, sang, and joked with/for them during the game and they reciprocated in kind, which made the whole process and overall game soooooo much fun! Because of those three awesome people, I decided to come back and play the "Master of Illusion" game two days later. I was sad to see that neither of them were working that day in my location.
Regardless of that fact, I WOULD NOT recommend the 'Master of Illusion' theme as your escape room game. I found it very hard to follow in terms of the game's overall rules and flow. I understand that there might be some clues that are meant to be misleading but the majority of this room's clues and puzzles were unnecessarily 'tricky' - some of which I think were unintentional. The flow of the narrative and overall clue/puzzle-solving process didn't make a lot of sense - which left me feeling overly frustrated within the first 20 minutes of the game. I love games and puzzles even if they are meant to be really challenging. But, this room got me to the point where I seriously considered giving up and leaving it early. Without the gamemaster literally hand-feeding me the answers in some places, I would have stopped play halfway through the allotted time. I hope the management replaces this specific room with a better-themed and playable game.
Whoever designed the 'Zombie' room was on the right track for escape room narratives and playability! More like this please and thank you! Give Lilo, Joseph, and Josh my compliments and perhaps a raise! I would love to play with them again!
