Over the course of 90 minutes, explore some of the newest buildings around the Chicago Architecture Center, focusing on construction elements and their impact on the city’s built environment.

What's New looks at some of the most recent additions to the built environment surrounding the Chicago Architecture Center. This walking tour focuses on each building's height, structure, materials, ornament and its impact on the environment, the neighborhood and the city's economy. The tour showcases several recently completed buildings, including 462 N. Park and the St. Regis, and compares them to each other in order to observe emerging patterns. These new additions are also contrasted with some of the older buildings downtown as a way to highlight developments.

As a certified nonprofit, all CAC ticket purchases directly support our education efforts and community engagement projects.

It was a great way to discover this neighborhood of Chicago’s downtown. Our docent was very friendly. Rene made our experience unique and not boring at all! I loved how he brought personal experiences to some of the buildings. He kept the energy of this tour even though was a hot day, he was sure that we were in the shade or able to take breaks if needed! Definitely will take more tours with Rene or the CAC!

This tour was just what we were looking for! As Chicago-area residents, we have already done tours on the river, watched shows about the history of Chicago, and been to the CAC. The What’s New Tour helped us learn about newer buildings and buildings yet-to-come. Maureen was our tour guide and was very friendly, knowledgeable, and a great teacher! I hope to do this tour in the future when there are new buildings to learn about.

Equal parts fun and interesting! Learned a lot and had a very good time. If you are able, take a tour with Paul - knows his stuff, charming and witty. I have walked these streets many times but from now on will do it with a completely different perspective - so interesting!!
