Beluga Point

Льодовик Портедж

Beluga Point

The point is a definite must stop location as the views are spectacular! Beluga Point, a rocky outpost jutting into the waters of Turnagain Arm, is just south of Anchorage along the Seward Highway. It’s named for the white whales that are often spotted from this location as they make their way up and down the inlet. Beluga's are often seen between July and August.

Portage Glacier

Portage Valley is a 14 mile isthmus that connects the Kenai Peninsula to mainland Alaska. Portage Glacier once extended the entire length of the valley. The glacial remnants seen today are Explorer, Middle, Byron, Burns, and Shakespeare glaciers. While still massive in size, these glaciers stand as smaller reminders of the immense ice sheets that once covered this landscape.

Your guide Matt has excellent knowledge and is friendly. He took care for guests safe and care for taking photos. I usually don’t have a tour but I enjoyed taking this tour. Seeing frozen iced bay views, mountains and wild animals are awesome. I have to say the management of this company, not about guide, was little disappointed. It was because I was informed this tour might be cancelled within 24 hours before starting time due to guests number. If I didn’t realized the massage tour will held, I missed join the tour and lost my fee.

My tour guide Matthew (with two T's) was great about letting us know safety procedures before we set off. He was extremely knowledgeable about the area, the history, and had lots of great fun facts to share. We even got to meet Henry, the raven he befriended at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, which was fun. Matthew was great at adapting the tour to account for any weather changes so we experienced as much as possible. He even tried to keep the window from fogging up with a squeegee so we could all see out the windows--but I suggest bringing your own towel/rag to help out a bit. I liked how Matthew kept everyone engaged and active--which was great since I was a solo traveler and he made me feel part of the group. The tour price is worth it for everything you see, the knowledge of the guide, and all the great recommendations he made. I took my wife back and we did some of the things Matthew suggested! GREAT tour.

Our tour guide Matt absolutely made the tour the best experience! He was knowledgeable and made sure we were all comfortable and engaged. The scenery was breathtaking and the wildlife conservation visit was a highlight for me. I learned to much from Matt about history and geology, wildlife and glaciers, and he was a fabulous storyteller.
