Our main goal was to enjoy the huskies and the puppies. What we got was so much more. There was the beautiful Great Pyrenees dog to play with in the tour office while we waited, the wonderful and friendly staff who checked us in, and then Mike our tour guide who bundled us into the vehicle and off we went.
Vistas? Check.
Fun, interesting and useful information along the way? Check.
Mike is the kind of free spirit that you don't realize you really want to have on a journey such as this, and his knowledge of both the local history as well as tales of his international experiences are well worth it. Ask him about his boat and Haiti ! ;o)
The trip included crossing the Canadian border (passports, everyone!) and then the arrival at dog camp which heralded a chorus of husky barks and puppies to cuddle with.
Michelle Phillips is a woman of few words but absolute control over her husky pack, and the ride was both fun and exhilarating. No snow here, but riding along behind the dogs in their harnesses, you can get the smallest inkling of what an intense experience the Iditarod race must be.
All too soon we were back on the bus and Mike took us to a few more scenic areas for quick photo ops including Yukon and Alaska signs before heading back over the border and into Skagway.
Wonderful trip. 10/10+
