What To Expect

St. Helena's Anglican Church

Our guest will here the role the church played in Beaufort's History from its founding in 1712, they will see the grave yard from the carriage and hear about some of Beaufort's founding fathers, & soldiers who gave there all who are buried there.

Our tour will meander on the backstreets of Old Beaufort's Historic District and pass by century old live oak trees draped in spanish moss, Antebellum & Victorian Houses and Churches, Beautiful Gardens all from the comfort of our beautiful Blue Carriages pulled by our Gentle Giants. Relax and enjoy the clippity clop of the horses feet while your guide shares Beaufort's 300+ years of history, folklore, legends & Hollywood movie tales. From the early Colonial settlements, American Revolution, Plantation life of the Antebellum South, Civil War, Reconstruction Period, the 20th century through today Beaufortonians have always been involved in every major period of American History.

The Point

The tour meanders slowly through this neighborhood under the branches of the beautiful old live oak trees draped in Spanish Moss. Most of the Antebellum & Victorian Houses & lovely little cottages are located in the Old Point Neighborhood of Beaufort.

Our guide was excellent. We learned a lot of Beauford history plus the scenery was beautiful. The tour guide was funny and informative. Can't remember her name but she was the most petite guide running Phillippe the largest and most beautiful 2400 lb horse. I asked many questions about the care of the horses and am convinced that the horses are loved and well taken care of. Rest and water and hosing down in between rides. It was a very well run outfit. When navigating the busy main street someone from the office would meet you there and control traffic while you crossed. Beauford is full of southern style mansions dating back 300 years in some cases as well as rich in movie making industry and you find out what famous actors lived there and saw where many scenes were filmed. Probably the best carriage ride we've experience and would do again on another visit. Well done Southurn Rose Buggy Tours.

We had a great tour with Anastasia. The history and humor were on point!! Loved learning more about Harriet Tubman and Robert Smalls. We also enjoyed lunch by the river after our tour and treats from Chocolate Tree.

Loved this tour. Our horse Philippe was a character and the star of the show. Our guide Tyler was knowledgeable and made the tour informative with lots of light elements. Seeing the beautiful homes and hearing their stories made the tour special.
