Unique to the Big Island of Hawaii, over a dozen species of whales can be found on the Kona Coast year-round! Join us as we explore the offshore in search of pilot whales, false killer whales, whale sharks, spinner dolphins, sperm whales, and more!

Our Hawaiian Adventures crew is passionate about whales, and we pride ourselves on being the whale experts of the Big Island. What To Expect

Kailua-Kona

Kona is the ultimate whale and wildlife destination. Kona’s calm waters, deep coastlines, and variety of marine life make the region a world-class wildlife location. Our tours leave out of Honokohau Harbor, which has access to both near-shore and pelagic zones. Exploring the near-shore zone, you have the opportunity to see humpbacks during the winter months, spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, manta rays, and flying fish. With a US Coast Guard offshore certification, Hawaiian Adventures Kona can also reach the pelagic zone- something very few tours do. The pelagic zone expands the search into waters thousands of feet deep to look for pilot whales, beaked whales, sperm whales, spotted dolphins, whale sharks, and more! Hawaiian Adventures’ tour durations allow for a greater search range, more time with whales, and more wildlife encounters on every tour!

Such a beautiful morning!! Saw several moms with babies. Escort make waves were amazing. They are so big. Learned many things about the humpbacks. Great crew!!

Friendly, confident, and knowledgeable staff! While we would have liked to get closer to the whales, we did get to see several. The highlight, however, was being surrounded by around 200 spinner dolphins all jacked up on their way out to deeper waters to hunt. Dolphins of all ages from baby to mature adult were swimming alongside us, under us, leaping and spinning for around 10 minutes. It was magical

We have gone on whale watching trips before and so we know that there are no guarantees of seeing anything. This was not one of those days! We had several sightings of multiple whales, mothers with calf and male escort whale. In one case, they swam right up to and under our boat and hung around for a while. The team put the hydrophone in the water so we could hear the whales too. Amazing! We also had a pod of spinner dolphins ride in the wake, stern and bow. Sam and Hunter provided a lot of info along the way and Captain Shane did a great job of finding whales for us. Highly recommend this excursion !
