This was my second time doing this tour and it was great both time. We sat on the upper level of the double decker bus (Beware! you are exposed to the elements!! It was 90 degrees and full sun the day we did our tour and it was HOT!! Be sure to bring water!). The bus drives through town, giving some great information, makes a stop at a coffee shop/store, then continues driving through the battle field where you get off at Little Round Top and can overlook Devil's Den and pretty much all of Gettysburg. The bus does drive a little too fast to take a lot of clear pictures from. It was really nice however because it gave us an idea of certain spots that we wanted to go back and spend more time at (some of the lookout towers). I would highly recommend especially towards the beginning of your trip. This tour took 2 hours.

After driving around and walking through multiple cemeteries we decided to take the bus tour. This was an excellent decision, we rode in the comfort of the upper deck, listened to the guide through the provided headphones and learned much more than we could have on our own. If the temps are high, take a bottle of water to hydrate. They do make one stop for a bathroom break and to purchase additional fluids. Be aware the right side of the bus does get close to overhanging tree branches that will swat at you. Either side has an excellent view of the monuments. Go, enjoy and learn all the details of the three day battle.

Whether you are a novice learning about the history of the battles or a well advanced learner this bus tour is highly recommended. Make sure you get there early to reserve a seat on the top of the double decker bus. Wear sunscreen and ladies pin down any hats!! The bus does not travel fast but the wind while on top can easily blow off your hat. You will be warned to keep your arms and hands inside of the bus frame if you sit on top because the bus does travel quite near trimmed trees. I am sure the city does watch this as best they can ( tree branches) but it is your duty to be alert as well. You will see my sites along the tour with one bathroom break in between. What we especially enjoyed was the overview seeing which areas and sites we would go back to on our own. The tour guide gave us an accurate picture of what happened when. They pass out earplugs that are adjustable so that you can hear the tour guide and not disturb the neighbors when traveling in the city limits. I would highly recommend you take this tour the first day you are in Gettysburg so that you can help plan the rest of your stay. The parking lot is ample and situated next to the Wade House where afterwards you can walk over and tour as well. We did not purchase a "package" only the bus tickets and that is what we would recommend.
