What To Expect
1
Historic Downtown and Railroad District
We will ride through historic downtown Flagstaff and your guide will point and and give historical information on the many structures and human history of the area. Several of the buildings seen are from the late 1800's when Flagstaff was in it's infant stages. Some of these include the Weatherford and Monte Vista Hotels, the train depot, churches, and the original spring that still runs today. We will also cover the ancient peoples of the area dating back several hundred years.
2
Buffalo Park
From Buffalo Park you will have spectacular views of the San Francisco peaks, Mount Elden, and a spanning view of Flagstaff from above. This trail also has opportunity to see wildlife of the area including deer, several bird species, squirrels and sometimes elk.
3
Lowell Observatory
We will not visit the observatory on the tour but we will travel trails around the observatory. These include Mars Hill and Observatory Mesa. These trails have wonderful aerial views of Northern Arizona University, the San Francisco Peaks, Downtown Flagstaff, and more surrounding lands. These trails wind through a forest of ponderosa pine and are a blast to ride. Wildlife can include elk, deer, squirrel, rabbits, and even the rare porcupine siting.
4
Route 66
A portion of the tour will be along Old Historic Route 66. You will see several of the old structures, shops, and hotels along this route. A great piece of history to experience.
5
Northern Arizona University
We will take a small tour through the campus of Northern Arizona University (NAU) during the tour. You will see some of the original historic buildings on campus and get a brief history of the campus as well.
