Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
The Navajo culture has thrived on the land between the Four Scared Mountains, and those teachings have been inherited through generations of verbal and lesson teaching methods. Some of these teachings are shared with you during the Cultural Tour by your Navajo guide. The Cultural, 3.5 hour tour makes a first stop at the famous John Fordā€™s Point where many of John Wayneā€™s western cinematic movies were filmed. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the ā€œSunā€™s Eye Arch" and Hogan Demonstration.Ā  At ā€œSunā€™s Eye Archā€ you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sunā€™s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guideā€™s stories. Next, you will travel to the ā€œBig Hogan.ā€ The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots. The last stop in the Backcountry is the ā€œEar of the Wind.ā€ This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs. Next, you will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument. The last stop is at the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at a different angle. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point. Unfortunately, we cannot give much information about our guidesā€™ stories because each guide has very uniquely different stories to tell. Our guidesā€™ stories come from personal experience, lore, legends and the Navajo culture.

I've been wanting to visit Oljato-Monument Valley since I was a child and so, instead of simply doing the self-drive tour I booked the cultural sunset tour with Dineh Bekeyah so I could make the most of our trip. It's probably the best decision I've met on this trip. Our guide, Von (apologies if I spelt this incorrectly), was sensational. As well as taking us to some of the most amazing sights of the park, she also took some incredible photos of us and the park. Von also tailored the trip to make sure we saw more of what interested us the most (e.g. the petroglyphs). The best thing about the trip was getting to learn about the Navajo culture and the amazing history and stories of the tribe. If you're coming to Oljato-Monument Valley, I'd urge you to skip the self-driving tour and book on a tour with Dineh Bekeyah. You won't regret it and you'll have a far richer experience with lifelong memories.

Monument Valley is an amazing place to visit and our tour was exceptional. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and was even able to advise us on getting fabulous pictures. It was also very interesting learning about the Navajo cultute.

The tour was simply amazing and we saw some things that just took my breath away. Derek was an incredible guide, not just with the knowledge of the park and its history, but also in telling us a bit about his culture and life in the area. Would HIGHLY recommend to anyone coming to Monument Valley. We saw lots of other tours, but nothing compared to ours. Thank you Derek!!!
