4-Hour Biblical Creation + Sunset Tour • Grand Canyon National Park South Rim

Overview
Experience the Grand Canyon from a biblical creation perspective with Canyon Ministries.

The Sunset Rim Tour begins inside the park at the Grand Canyon Visitor Center flagpole, meeting around four hours before sunset. From there, you’ll journey along the South Rim’s east side on Desert View Drive, traveling in comfort to some of the most breathtaking overlooks and vistas.

At each stop, step out to take in stunning views, explore the surroundings, and engage in meaningful teaching. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the canyon’s geology, wildlife, and history, all framed by the biblical account of Creation and the Flood as described in Genesis.

At the end of the tour, we will close out the day with the One who made it as the sun sets far to the west over the rim.

Total tour length is variable, depending on when the sun sets that day. Plan to be back around 30 minutes after the sunset.

Additional tours, backpacking, & Grand Canyon river trips are also available!

What To Expect
1
Grand Canyon South Rim
Our biblical creation tours of the Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim include multiple stops to the very best overlooks with tons of insightful teaching throughout the day. The order below is a "typical" route, focusing on the park's east side along Desert View Drive. Due to changing weather, seasons, or the people flow in the park that day, we may have alternate stops other than what we provide below. Our tours are not "scripted", so guides have the freedom and flexibility to respond to changes in the park as well as your own individual group dynamic. Our tour does not include entry fee into the Grand Canyon National Park, which you may pay at the gate or use a National Park Pass. Entry is good for 7 days of unlimited use.
2
Grand Canyon Visitor Center South Rim
Our tour meets at the flag pole just outside the Grand Canyon Visitor Center building INSIDE the park at tour start time. Plan extra arrival time during spring and summer. Holidays and spring break may have lines over an hour long getting into the park. We suggest you arrive early and enjoy views at the Grand Canyon Village or Mather Point or a Rim Trail walk before joining our tour.
3
Yavapai Point
Starting near the Grand Canyon Visitor Center, our first stop provides you with an introduction to the Grand Canyon and its geology. We will lay the foundation for the rest of the tour regarding the biblical events of the Flood found in Genesis and the significance of what we'll be exploring throughout our tour.
4
Grandview Point
Learn about the exciting Wild West people history at Grandview Point, with talks on mining both copper and tourist pockets in the early days of the Grand Canyon National Park development. Enjoy wide vistas and the distant Colorado River as we talk about the significance of the canyon and whether that river has the power to cut and remove this material.
5
Lipan Point
While taking in fantastic river views, including one of the canyon's largest rapids, we will talk about the Native American Ancestral Puebloans who lived far below on the Unkar Delta. At Lipan Point, we will also showcase the geological Great Unconformity, Cambrian Explosion, and the Tapeats Sandstone—all of which provide fantastic observable evidence for a global Flood. Learn about the mechanisms of the Flood from its onset, and how we believe the sedimentary rock layers were deposited through this year-long destructive event of biblical proportions!
6
Navajo Point
A lot of water, in a little bit of time. Learn about the carving of the Grand Canyon by what we call the "lake spillover" or "breached dam" model, something first proposed in geology all the way back in the 1800s and still held by both creation and some secular geologists alike today. See beyond the Grand Canyon to the distant Vermillion and Echo Cliffs of the Marble Platform and southeast to parts of the Painted Desert. Learn about the nearby historic Desert View Watchtower, completed in 1932.
7
Grand Canyon Visitor Center South Rim
After the tour, our guide will drop you off back at your vehicle at the Grand Canyon National Park Visitor Center, or wherever else you may have parked that day. If you booked the Train & Sunset Tour (available on our website), we will return you to your vehicle in Williams.

Our afternoon tour with Dana was a hospitable and relaxing experience. As people of faith we enjoyed hearing the biblical creation story paralleled with the formation and geological history of the Grand Canyon. Great experience with our family where God and His creation was explained in depth. Dana was great, we pray she continues to spread God’s word and meshes it with her geological expertise!

My wife and I along with our closest friends took this tour with Bob as our guide. What an experience it was and for me, it was the highlight of our week in Arizona. Bob took time to explain how the flood created the layers in the canyon and the catastrophic breach of the Hopi and Grand lakes actually formed the canyon and backed it up with scripture. As an engineer, the river carving theory never set well with me because of the breadth of the side canyons. I never understood how a river could carve something so vast. Bob cleared this up for me and answered all our questions. He was so good with the children that were in our group, knowing their names and getting them involved in the Q&A sessions. What an incredible resource you have in him. Our tour culminated with the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the canyon. Was a spiritual experience for us and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know more about Noah's flood and scripture in support of it.
