1
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Travel by air-conditioned coach from central New Orleans to the nearby fishing village of Jean Lafitte, named after an 18th-century smuggler. Home to a variety of diverse cultures, this area surrounded by Lousiana bayous has been the site of extensive logging operations, sugar and rice plantations and animal trapping enterprises over the years. Today, the people's simple way of life is a marked contrast to the hustle-bustle of New Orleans.

It was great!!! Our guide was fantastic - we stopped in a cove and he enticed an 8 ft gator to come up to the boat by feeding him chicken necks!!!! Of course I took a video with my IPhone for my grandsons!!!! He told us a lot about gators, and even had a baby one that he was taking care of at home on the boat - we took turns holding him. He fed the 8footer marshmellows and placed one on top of his head before we left!!! Great fun - love the hanging moss!!! I'll go again - well worth the cost!!!!
