What To Expect

Alcatraz Island

Once you take the ferry over to Alcatraz Island and you are dropped off, you will make your way up to the main prison building, where you receive an audio headset, and the audio tour will guide you through the Alcatraz Prison. Once the audio tour is over, you can continue taking pictures and exploring the Island, or you can walk back down to the ferry landing and hop on the next ferry headed back to San Francisco. The Alcatraz tour typically takes 2-3 hours to enjoy.

It was amazing. Everything from the ferry ride up until we got there was such an awesome experience. We were able to take the tour through the whole prison only some spot were closed to to construction but other than that everything was so memorable. The man we spoke to for our tickets was extremely nice he dropped off our tickets at our hotel room and was very responsive for any questions we had along with our package we got bikes and were able to explore San Francisco throughout the whole day. I really recommend this place to anyone trying to have a memorable trip.

Outstanding experience. Well-worth the time and cost. We were kind of amused by the National Park Ranger who took great pains to explain that there was a great deal of history behind Alcatraz that had nothing to do with the federal prison (Civil War, military post, etc.) yet the entire tour was then focused on the prison. We didn't mind...just kind of interesting.
