My husband and I enjoyed a day out sailing with Danger Charters during one of our 3 days in Key West. We had a great time. The staff were super friendly, and hospitable. It really felt great to be out on the water away from all the loudness of Key West.
Our first stop was snorkelling and I hopped into the water with my underwater camera, so excited to get to snorkel in the Keys but I was instantly very disappointed to discover that the water was VERY MURKY and green. I was unable to get a single photo. The murkiness was one problem, the second issue was that we were a minimum 15- 20 feet above the coral, so you could not get a good view of ANY fish. The closest thing that was in sight was some little jellyfish that were floating near the surface.I tried to swim around most of the coral where we stopped and ...nothing but murky water. I have snorkelled all over the world (I actually choose my destinations for the snorkelling) and this was the worse snorkelling experience I have ever had. I felt sorry for the first time snorkellers that might not know what they are missing, and be spooked by the conditions. (no fault of the crew...unless there were coral out croppings we could have gone to that were not as deep)
Our second stop was a kayak through a mangrove area around and through one of the islands (I believe called Man or Woman Key) This was a fun experience and we were able to see some birds, a few fish, a few turtles, and small sharks and some crabs.
Some of us chose to hop in for a swim after the kayak, before we sailed back to port.
The lunch provided was great. The staff were always asking us if we wanted a drink.
It was a great way to spend the day and I would highly recommend a sail, as long as you are aware of the snorkelling conditions (if that is important to you, as you might be disappointed)
Thank-you Danger Charters for a lovely day.
