We tendered in from our ship and were met at the dock by a charming young lady with a blue bus. It was a beautiful sunny day. Dee turned out to be remarkably articulate about her very detailed knowledge of her home island. She was even more remarkably responsive to questions from first time visitors. The tour ranged from Martha's Vinyards (MV) early history as an affluent summer retreat for the rich and famous to recent events such location site for the movie "Jaws." Dee was also able to relate historical connections such as MV connection to the Underground Railway and MV connection ALS sign language for the deaf. MV also has very interesting connections to to the old Whaling Industry as well. The tour also allowed us to experience some of the vibrant life of one of New England's most prominent summering havens. In our case, to taste (and acquire) Beach Plum Jelly.

We plan girls trips each year and this year we choose the Cape and Martha's Vineyard. Since we hadn't been to the Vinyard before, a tour was in order. We worked with DeeDee to organize a great tour. She was always in communication with us before arriving, even calling to make sure we made our ferry! She met us at the dock and showed us her lovely island, filling us in with the history of the island as well as her personal history, too. If you ever need a tour of the island, definitely give DeeDee a call. She'll show you the Vineyard as only a local can.

DeeDee of Home Grown Tours was waiting for us at Oak Bluffs Terminal. She shared with us that we could get snacks at nearby places before the tour started, since we had an early arrival. DeeDee is a 3rd generation local and shared much knowledge of people, places and towns on the Island. She was professional, friendly, funny and always making sure we were comfortable. This tour is a must see for first time visitors to thr Vineyard.
