Overview
Discover winter in Alaska’s Arctic! Begin your journey with a small plane flight north across the Arctic Circle to a landing strip along the Dalton Highway at Coldfoot.  Travel south on the famed Dalton Highway. View the remarkable Trans Alaska Pipeline. Experience the mighty Yukon River. Explore up close the amazing arctic tundra. Cross the Arctic Circle and receive an official Arctic Circle Adventure Certificate.

NOTE - each tour is unique with our ever changing daylight. Depending on when you are traveling it is important your day may be more "night" then day light".

Max Dressed Weight: 340 lbs.

Aurora is active over 300 days of the year -- BUT, it needs to be dark to see them.  Joy Alaska is 60 road miles outside of Fairbanks.  Next step is to stay awake during the peak time of activity -- which is late night here in Alaska.  Your guide will keep your mind engaged while you wait and watch the sky for the lights.

We did the Arctic Circle Fly/Drive Southbound earlier this month and truly enjoyed the tour. All guides were fabulous, Emily being the best at Coldfoot. One guide, Aaron Marlow wasn't very good. He first introduced himself by handing out HIS business cards for his photography business and the trip with him was all about HIM! He ran up rocks and led participants (some with limited mobility) through the tundra permafrost area quite a way to dig a hole down to the permafrost (could have dug a hole closer to the bus). With all his antics we ended up being late for our next connection. The bus smelled like a sewer, so some upgrades needed there. The experience was unforgettable, and the last guide was very helpful in stopping to see the lights.(not so with Aaron).

Thank you for joining us and for taking the time to share information with us. It is with feedback we learn what is working, what is not...and what is taking place. The Arctic Circle Aurora Fly Drive Adventure ground tour is really 2 parts, the ground tour from Fairbanks to Joy Alaska -- more of a "day" tour. During this section you are learning about Alaska's Arctic and making stops to see close up the Trans Alaska Pipeline, Dalton Highway, Tundra, Arctic Circle, and Yukon River. It is the later part once you get to Joy Alaska for the Aurora viewing. So it is normal not be be stopping to look for the lights unless they are out real strong and the guide has a safe place to park off the road. Which often can't take place along the Dalton Highway - so saving it for when you get to Joy to stay out later, longer with your Aurora guide is where that takes place. Again, thank you for joining us and letting us know what worked for you.

Take the option to fly both directions. We should have been told that there was an option to fly back to Fairbanks after flying to Coldfoot for the Arctic Circle. Everything was fabulous until the 9 hour return bus ride on the Dalton Highway with an insufferable driver who quoted poetry and a native folk story that was superficial and juvenile. The visit to the Arctic Circle Trading Post for dinner was very disappointing as the food choices were not good.

Thank you for choosing the Arctic Circle Aurora Fly Drive Adventure. We are sorry it didn't meet your expectations and that you didn't know we offer more than 20 different adventures in the summer. ALL are listed on our website for visitors to choose from - no tour is hidden and we try to share what each tour experience is. If you would like to contact us to share more specific feedback we would be happy to listen. Knowing the date you traveled, the guide can help us be more specific to learn from you and to share with other guests and guides. Your feedback is the minority on other reviews; however, we take all feedback - both the good and bad, to learn what it is a guest is hearing from us so we can improve our expectations, and to learn what your experience was to review the experience. Thank you, Kathy Northern Alaska Tour Company 907-474-8600
