Please do not book through this tour operator, if you even slightly love your life. We took their Arctic Circle tour on the 5th of September, 2022 and we just got lucky that we are still alive. The driver, Jake, could not keep awake until the end of the tour and he just asked a passenger, who was sitting on the front seat next to him, to drive the vehicle for the last 3 hours while he himself dozed off and was snoring. This passenger himself told us on the tour that he was severely jetlagged and underslept and he was from Europe (where they don't even have left hand side driving). This passenger might have been the best of the drivers, but the highway conditions requires a local expert to drive on these rough, narrow and dangerous roads with steep turns. We booked this tour to be safe and out on the road, but it was the opposite. We were really scared and it was a really dangerous situation the driver put us in. I agree it was a long tour, but if it is too much to drive for one person, the tour people should have 2 drivers in the vehicle who could alternate turns. The driver was utterly disinterested in giving us any information since the beginning of the trip. It was basically just driving us up and back. On our way back from the Arctic circle, before he dozed of, he literally stopped every 10 minutes and pretended he was hunting for the Auroras, whereas it was quite evident that all he wanted to do was to smoke a cigarette. And then when the actual auroras came out, he rushed the vehicle because he wanted to reach in time and we hardly enjoyed the auroras, or stopped to watch them when they were finally out in full glory. We requested the driver to stop, but he pretended as if he couldn't hear anything. We came back 2 hours later than the expected arrival time. The entire experience was such a nightmare and we hardly enjoyed the experience. DO NOT RECOMMEND at all

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your tour. While we do not like hearing that guests had a bad time on any of our tours, those reviews help us fix problems to make the tours better for everyone. We are sorry and concerned to hear that your tour guide allowed a guest to drive one of our vans. This is not something that we allow any of our guides do to. We have informed all of our guides again that there is to be no one but the guides driving the vehicles. Your tour guide in question did fall severely ill after this tour and was out of work recovering for a week. We do understand that this is not an excuse as to why your tour guide allowed another person to drive while he slept. Here at Alaska Wildlife Guide, we pride ourselves in providing the best customer service to all of our guests. Unfortunately on this day your tour guide did not perform to our standards. We have spoken with this tour guide and taken the necessary disciplinary actions to ensure that this will not happen again. We hope that if you ever decide to come back to interior Alaska that you give us another chance to show you a great time on another tour.

We decided we wanted to experience a trip to the Arctic Circle on our recent vacation to Alaska. Our trip led by Tony N did not disappoint. We were able to stop at the most interesting places on way. The scenery was spectacular and Tony’s stories and information about the area made the time traveling seem shorter than it was. We would recommend this trip with this driver/guide if you are interested in seeing this part of Alaska.

From other reviews, we were expecting a narrated tour. Our guide didn’t say anything. His microphone didn’t work and we couldn’t hear a thing he said anyway. It was a long, long 13 hours. He was 1 1/2 hours late and basically drove us up and back. We thought since he worked on the pipeline he would talk about that, but he didn’t. We wondered if maybe he had to sub in for someone that called off. So disappointing! The worst was when this other guy lights up a cigarette IN THE VAN!! And the driver said nothing, nor did the guy’s wife. Same guy talked red politics all night too. We wished the driver was more assertive. But we did see an aurora. Not sure it was worth it though.

We are sorry that you did not have a 5 star experience on your Northern Light and Arctic Circle tour with us. Your tour guide is one of our most experienced guides that has driven that road many of times. We are saddened to hear that you did not get a more narrated tour as this is unlike him. We will be speaking to all of our guides to insure that they all know how to work the microphone as well as understand that narration on this tour is a must. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. We are sorry to hear that someone did feel that it was acceptable to light a cigarette in our vans. We do have a no smoking policy in our vans. After speaking to the tour guide, he did inform us that he did speak with the guest at the next stop in regards to our policy and that the guest did apologize. While our staff refrains from speaking about controversial issues with guests, we cannot prevent the guests from having these conversations with other guests. We are sorry that the conversations that were had on the tour were unpleasant for you. We apologize that the tour guide was running late that day. He was scheduled for that tour and was running a few minutes behind picking up guests. The main delay in picking you and your party up as well was the fact that you did change your pick up location during the guide's route to pick you up. If you feel that you would like to speak further in regards to your experience, please reach out to our office Monday through Friday 9am-5pm Alaska Standard Time and speak to our manager. We hope that if you are ever in the great state of Alaska you give us the opportunity to take you out on another tour.
