Honokaa
WOH Ranch, a working livestock ranch and farm operation sharing exclusive views of enchanting Hamakua. This scenic opportunity allows travel through a traditional land division (Ahupua’a) that stretches from the mountain to the ocean and is home to native flora and fauna. Surrounding gardens radiate fertility as you drive alongside fishponds full of Hamakua sunfish on your tour. Dwarf coconuts, sugar cane, taro, sweet potato and multiple varieties of bananas are just some of the plants you will see before riding alongside the historic Hamakua ditch. Served sugarcane’s century of success, now benefits farmers and wildlife. Pass by our spring-fed reservoir where cattle roam and horses take leisurely swims before driving mauka (toward the mountain) to sweeping grasslands and panoramic views. At the ocean, we kick back and relax for a short break to appreciate the stunning Hamakua coastline. On a clear day, view north face cliffs of Waipio’s, and even see Maui. We had a blast! Definitely would do it again! An incredible adventure we will not easily forget. Our experienced guide as we toured through the ranch explained how everything we saw whether it be geese, ducks, the tilapia fish ponds, cows, horses, coconut tree farm, goats, even the fresh fish caught in the ocean is used on the ranch. We learned a lot about Hawaii and its culture. Be prepared to get dusty!

Yes, lots to see, so many animals and tropical fruits! But don’t forget the incredible views of the vast property ranging from the mountains to the sea.

Ronson and Solana were fantastic guides. It was an amazing experience. We saw wild horses and donkeys. No wild pigs on this trip but I hear they come around quite often. We were able to sample the fruits of the farm and get a quick history of the land.

Overall the location and farm was beautiful and it would have been fantastic if the tour guide was more personable and knowledgeable. We arrived and there was no formal greeting, we were just ushered over to a table and told to sign waivers and then told to grab a helmet from inside. The helmets were ill kept and very worn. We then got into the UTV and the only instruction provided was to ā€œbe heavy on the brakes when going down hillā€. At each stop on the tour we had to ask numerous questions to get any information out of the guide with very little context to what we were seeing/doing. It seemed as though he was just going through the motions of leading us to each location, often the group was standing in silence. Overall it had the potential to be a great experience if the tour guide had some sort of energy to give in the tour. If I could do it over I would have booked a different tour, it was not worth the price we paid.

I apologize for your experience. We will contact you to hope to rectify this. Our intentions are for you to have a fun time. We had hope you would enjoy the beauty of this mountain to Ocean property. We also would hope that you would gain knowledge of the culture and history of this historic Ahupua’a.
