We often take a food tour when we are new to a city. We not only want to find great places to eat but learn about the area in which we are eating. This food tour was a walking, downtown, tour. Even though our guide, Joe, said he would primarily focus on the food of Austin (which is obviously a passion of his and which he is quite knowledgeable about), an equal amount of time was spent on talking about the history and architecture of some of the downtown area. For me and my wife, the balance was about right and we were quite happy with the general knowledge of the city and the food. I have been on food tours where the food was the icing on the cake and history and architecture were the main course. I’ve been happy with those tours as well, as long as the food was great. The places we went, the food we sampled were all first rate! I would have happily returned to any of those establishments and will on future trips to Austin. Our favorite foods were the first two stops, Cooper’s for bbq, and Second Bar and Kitchen for the Black and Blue Pizza. Total gastronomical bliss. Thanks Joe! Thanks Austin! Make it warmer the next time we visit!
