This tour is a hidden gem of Austin. I went with my girlfriend this past Saturday night and Nicky was our tour guide and Joe was the driver. We got a nice history of the live music scene in Austin. We checked out three very different places and was such a good time. We got to two step with the best of them and went to two awesome dive bars that we would have never found otherwise. This is a small tour (there was 9 of us) and we all got to get to know each other. If you have about 3.5-4 hours to spare and love live music, this is the tour for you!

As a female on my own, I was looking for a way to learn more about the live music scene and visit different venues while feeling safe and comfortable. This tour was perfect…as were our tour guides Ike and Brent. Ike was clearly a recognized presence at each venue we visited. Our group of 5 was welcomed warmly. Ike always gave us the “run down” before we went in to each place (bathrooms, best place to stand, seating availability) as well the the history of the venue and the artists we would see. Brent got us in and out through crowded streets (the Austin marathon was scheduled for the following day). So glad I wasn’t trying to navigate! He was a great communicator and added to the tour experience. It’s clear that time, energy, and research goes in to picking the venues for each tour based on the artists playing to give guests a memorable experience. Seating was very limited at each of the venues we visited (The White Stallion, The Sahara, and The Skylark Lounge). The cover and tips for the artists were included/taken care of by Ike. We had 50 minutes - an hour at each place. We were “on our own” but Ike was visible “checking on us”. The spectacular venues and artists we saw were matched only by Ike and Brent with Austin Detours!
