For the stage musical, the legendary and award-winning Jim Steinman incorporated iconic songs from the Bat Out of Hell albums, including You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night), Bat Out of Hell, I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That), Paradise By the Dashboard Light and Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad, as well a previously unreleased song, What Part of My Body Hurts the Most. In Bat Out of Hell – The Musical, the chart-topping rock songs of Mr. Steinman propel an epic story of rebellious youth and passion as Strat, the immortal leader of The Lost, has fallen in love with Raven, the beautiful daughter of the tyrannical ruler Falco. Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf became one of the best-selling albums in history, selling over 50 million copies worldwide. 16 years later, Steinman scored again with ‘Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell,’ which contained the massive hit ‘I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)’.

I had the pleasure of seeing this new version of the original play on opening night (also Meat loafs birthday) And I will have to say that it was a surprisingly positive experience. I went in hoping for the best as I am a long-time fan of both the Man and the music, a die-hard fan so to speak and I had my doubts that they could pull off that music in a manner that would do Meatloaf justice. My concerns were baseless they did him proud. The choreography was fluid and well performed looked as though they had been together for a long time. The music was and is a timeless remembrance of the legend of Jim and Meatloaf’s time together. I feel the overall experience was a true reflection of the music and I think Meatloaf would have enjoyed their take on his work. If you are a fan of the music Jim and Meatloaf imagined this will be a real exciting show for you. If you’re not familiar with their body of work, I think you'll agree it is a great show and will introduce you to some great music and some talented folks working hard to entertain you. On a side note, I was blown away with the voices of Mecca Hicks and Je’shaun Jackson, we will hear more from them in the future I assure you. Go enjoy and reminisce about the good old days where rock and roll dreams do come true. Only negative I do wish it was longer at only an hour or so, but I know they said they will be tweaking it as they move forward. Hopefully add a few more songs in the process.
