I showed up one minute before the last tour of the day began. I went to the park while I was on a business trip in early March, before corona. I was just going to go to the team store and find some cool Padres gear, but I had some time to kill and decided to go on the tour. It was just me, a dad and son, and Brad, the guide. The tour was very personalized, Brad knows his stuff, and since I'm a real baseball geek I really appreciated that the tour included information and background on baseball as a whole in San Diego, not just the Padres or the park. HIGHLY recommended!!

Take a tour of Petco Park when the team isnā€™t in town. Senior rate for the two of us in the off season was $38. We were taken all over the stadium even though they were redoing the field. Our guide was very informative and knowledgeable. We went in the press box, the outdoor restaurant areas, the dugout, the locker room, even the employee corridors. The tour lasted about an hour and ended in an area that we were free to take our time and browse in. Added bonus even though we didnā€™t see him, one of the Padres announcers, Mark Grant, is from our hometown!

Maybe it was when we went, but we were disappointed that we weren't allowed to go on the field, in the home team's locker room, home team's dugout, or in the Hall of Fame. The tour was over-priced at $22. Our tour guide was good and knowledgeable, but the tour itself was disappointing, The field was being re-sodded, so we couldn't go on the field (I get that), the Padre's locker room was off limits because the players like to keep that area private (don't reporters go in there???), we only got to sit in the visitor's dugout (the Padre's dugout would have been better for photo ops), and the Hall of Fame was being repainted, so all of those things were off-limits during our tour. Overall, I felt very let down. Either don't offer tours when so much wasn't available, or offer a discount. I did hear one of the gals selling tickets tell a season ticket holder that they had to pay for their tour tickets because "the Padres don't give away anything for free". Sounds like the owners are money-hungry.
