Due to the heavy trafic in LA we spent so many more hours on bus that initially intended. You need to love bus driving to do this... We decided to use the hop-on hop-off bus to go to the beach, using both the Hollywood Route and the Beach Route. We ended up with 4,5 hours bus ride and 2,5 hours on the beach because of the heavy traffic - and because the last ride from the beach is at 16:30. The beach ride was quite boring, no tour guide on this part, on neither of the buses we took. The Hollywood/Beverly Hills ride was quite entertaining, especially when you get a good tour guide. Our first guide was awesome - the second one not... Be aware the the tour guides expect tips, bring cash.

Have done a few of these tours around the world now, and they do their job - showing you a lot in short time and giving you the chance to jump off at the bigger attractions. Plus for live commentary on this one. Two different and nice routes, beach and city. A bit expensive, but got it as a part of the Go City LA Pass.
