Lost Paddle is a great rafting company. Everyone was friendly and Chris, our guide, was very personable and chatted up our 7 and 9 yr old. My 9 yr old was very excited he got to paddle. Chris had us spin the raft and do tricks like "riding the bull" on the calm sections of water to keep it fun. The tour says 3 hours but it was really only about an hour on the river going about 7mi. A bus drives you about 20 minutes upriver where you board and then raft down to a pick up point.
Rough schedule for the 9am 1/2 day trip:
8:30-9:30am- arrival - get gear fitted, wait for everyone
9:30-10am - drive to the drop off point, get rafts in the water
10-11am - Raft 7 miles
11-11:20am - Load rafts
11:20-11:45am - Drive back to Canon City
My one complaint, that is not really the fault of Lost Paddle, is the picture package. We paid ahead for the picture CD. I had saw pictures posted here on TripAdvisor and they are really high quality so we splurged thinking we would get a great family photo in a raft. The problem was we were sitting on the left side of the boat (as if you were standing behind the boat) and the pictures are taken from the right bank. The pictures are taken at the strongest rapid for a dramatic effect. Because they are taken at the strongest rapid, my 7 yr old, for safety, had to sit on the floor of the raft and my 9 yr old had to stop paddling and join her on the floor. What we ended up getting were great photos of the other family on the boat with half of our faces peeking out and the tops of my kids' helmets. I'd recommend if you know you want to buy the pictures to sit on the right side of the boat.

Unfortunately with the high water event this season the photo company had to make some adjustments along with the outfitters to shift operations upstream for safety. It threw some logistical challenges at all of us. Typically the photos are done to a much higher quality when they are shot from a familiar location. Thanks again for rafting with us, we appreciate your business and taking the time to write up a review. -Jim
