Bioluminescence Night Kayaking Tour of Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge

Overview
There are only a few places is the world you can see this amazing display of sea life lighting up the waters with their other-worldly neon glow.  This is one Florida experience you do not want to miss! What makes this amazing is that the protected wetlands around the area we launch our kayaks has almost no light pollution. This make for amazing visibility of the bioluminescence.

My boyfriend and I took the Sunset tour for our one year anniversary and this trip was one for the books! Our guides Kaitlyn and Avi were both absolutely amazing! They were super friendly, knowledgeable and funny. Our tour started with paddling out to watch a stunning sunset. Kaitlyn gave us some history of the area and told us about Bird Island. On the paddle back in, we saw 3 dolphins within probably 40 feet of our kayak. After a little break and regrouping (more people joined for the second half of the tour), we went back out for the bioluminescent portion. We went in cooler water, so what we saw were comb jellies. It literally looked like we were paddling through diamonds. We also were super blessed with a crystal clear night, so looking up, we saw more stars than I could have ever imagined. There is absolutely nothing that could have made this trip better and we will definitely book another tour (and hopefully have Kaitlyn and Avi as guides again). Amazing, amazing, amazing!

Our party of three (two adults, one 11 year old) had an amazing time on the Bioluminescence Kayak Tour last weekend. We saw a ton of comb jellies lighting up the water under an incredible view of the night sky. We also heard what we think was a dolphin, seemingly following us for a little while, but it managed to stay out of the sight of our flash lights. The fact that the tour takes place in the dark really makes it seem like an adventure. A few tips: 1) Your clothes get fairly wet (especially the person in back). We were thankful to have been wearing sweatshirts and to have brought a dry change of clothes. 2) You might want to allow yourself extra drive time to get out there, if you're unfamiliar with the area. The tour we did was the one out by Merritt Island Wildlife, and we were coming from Orlando. BK Adventures emailed us very good directions ahead of time, but Google maps originally estimated arrival about 15-20 minutes earlier than we actually arrived. All in all, an amazing experience, and highly recommend it to anyone interested!

We went in colder weather in October at 7pm tour and was too cold for plankton to glow, so we didn't see bio-luminescence effect neither any lighting sea life. Staff did a great job for Halloween tough, we enjoyed it. Overall was still beautiful, peaceful kayaking night.
