Overview

On this three hour WALKING & DRIVING tour, you’ll travel around Birmingham to learn about the struggle for equal rights from the end of the Civil War up through the Civil Rights movement. Your tour will begin at the statue of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, the leader of the local movement Civil Rights struggle. We’ll discuss why the Civil Rights movement was needed and what led to segregation's fall. As you visit the major churches, parks and houses, you'll learn about a few groups who fought for Civil Rights in Birmingham and who fought against it.

We will walk over a mile on the tour in temperatures anywhere between 40-100F. Guests must be able to walk unassisted at a reasonable speed.

Learn about the role the church played in the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham and the history of the church bombing that tragically killed four little girls.

Absolutely fabulous tour! Our leader, Mike, is so knowledgeable about Birmingham and civil rights history. I learned so much, enjoyed the participants, and saw things I’ve never seen before. Hearing about the history of the Civil Rights movement in an authentic, transparent, heart full manner was the best thing about the tour. Our guide, Clay, was well informed and passionate about what he does. The tour was excellent and left us wanting to know more.

This tour was very good and our guide Mike was fantastic. Highly recommend it and well worth the fee. We learned quite a bit on the tour and Mike is a great story teller so that made it personal and very interesting. If you are in Birmingham, you need to sign up for the tour - 3 hours well worth your time.
