Overview

On this three hour WALKING & DRIVING tour, you’ll travel around Birmingham to learn about the struggle for equal rights from the end of the Civil War up through the Civil Rights movement. Your tour will begin at the statue of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, the leader of the local movement Civil Rights struggle. We’ll discuss why the Civil Rights movement was needed and what led to segregation's fall. As you visit the major churches, parks and houses, you'll learn about a few groups who fought for Civil Rights in Birmingham and who fought against it.

Clay is a highly informed local guide who gives the inside story loaded with details that are hard to find! You won't regret a second of this, in fact, you will wonder how 3 hrs passed so quickly.

I have traveled all over the world. I've been on group tours, private tours, and public tours, but this is my new number one. It was clear our guide not only studied the history and cares about the history, the city and its people. The information is for any age group. We were on and off the bus several times and the walking pace was slow, giving ample opportunity for pictures. And no matter how much you know about the city and its history, you will learn something. But be warned, the guide is not shy, he speaks the truth but is also quite opinionated. But I loved every second of it.

We did this tour with Red Clay and it was so worth it. He picked us up at our hotel and showed us so much of the Civil Rights history of Birmingham. Completely fantastic tour.
