Overview

On this three hour WALKING & DRIVING tour, you’ll travel around Birmingham to learn about the struggle for equal rights from the end of the Civil War up through the Civil Rights movement. Your tour will begin at the statue of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, the leader of the local movement Civil Rights struggle. We’ll discuss why the Civil Rights movement was needed and what led to segregation's fall. As you visit the major churches, parks and houses, you'll learn about a few groups who fought for Civil Rights in Birmingham and who fought against it.

We will walk over a mile on the tour in temperatures anywhere between 40-100F. Guests must be able to walk unassisted at a reasonable speed.

Learn about the role the church played in the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham and the history of the church bombing that tragically killed four little girls.

I wasn’t sure about what to expect from this tour, but, I literally can’t say enough how highly I recommend it! Our guide was an amazing young man with such heart and depth of knowledge!! Thanks to this tour, we saw sites we never would have known of otherwise and we heard such deep, insightful commentary that it was really mind blowing and eye opening. I wish every American had the chance to take this tour. Our country would be better if we all had the insights this tour offers.

I will never forget learning the impact one man, Bull Connor had on a city and it’s white people. To learn how much Hate someone can have for a Black person was just unbelievable, but that is also the time and era I’m living in today. Clay was so knowledgeable and did not mix words, he told it like it was. We plan on coming back with our grandkids.
