Overview

On this three hour WALKING & DRIVING tour, you’ll travel around Birmingham to learn about the struggle for equal rights from the end of the Civil War up through the Civil Rights movement. Your tour will begin at the statue of Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, the leader of the local movement Civil Rights struggle. We’ll discuss why the Civil Rights movement was needed and what led to segregation's fall. As you visit the major churches, parks and houses, you'll learn about a few groups who fought for Civil Rights in Birmingham and who fought against it.

We will walk over a mile on the tour in temperatures anywhere between 40-100F. Guests must be able to walk unassisted at a reasonable speed.

This had to be one of the most educational tours I’ve ever done. Our guide was truly exceptional, offering critical insights into the sordid past of Birmingham, and Alabama more broadly. While perhaps not for the faint of heart, I do think learning from history is truly one of the only ways to avoid repeating it, and this tour hits that mark 10/10! PS, I only wish I looked as good as the guide did in his awesome suit and hat!

We absolutely loved our guide. He was so knowledgeable and catered to the wide variety of people on the tour (including kids). It was obvious he cares deeply for Birmingham and the people who live there. You cannot miss this tour when you are in town!
