Blackstone Bay Glacier Cruise and Coach

Overview
We make it easy to see it all in one day! Relax on the coach as the driver guide narrates while you enjoy the beauty of Turnagain Arm.

In Whittier, the Glacier Quest Cruise cruises from the quaint seaside town to glacier-filled Blackstone Bay, a dramatic deep-water fjord where two tidewater glaciers and several alpine glaciers await. Keep an eye out for sea otters, Steller sea lions, bears, mountain goats, whales, and more!

You will see several glaciers, including Tebenkof Glacier, named for Mikhail Demitrievich Tebenkof, an outstanding surveyor whose maps were the first charts of Alaska’s waters published in 1852. Northland Glacier rests majestically, clinging to the edge of the towering mountain. Blackstone and Beloit are tidewater glaciers that have carved a steep pathway to reach Prince William Sound’s saltwater. Cruise up close to these massive glaciers to watch for telltale signs of movement signaled by the distinct “pop” of glacier ice calving.

I had a fabulous day getting so close to the two glaciers we saw, it was informative with the Park Ranger on board, it was beautiful, it was exciting and the salmon chowder for lunch was delicious.

The ship was nice, staff was lovely. First, we saw almost no wildlife. Glaciers were beautiful. It was pouring. They couldn’t help that. But the experience is poorly planned. The bus trip began at 9:00 but they had no plans for dealing with rain. If it weren’t raining there would have been stops. So it was a lot of waiting on the bus and in the freezing rain. Second, we were not aware that there were two boat trips of different lengths taking the same bus back. So we had to kill almost two hours in the freezing rain with almost nowhere to go. We found a coffee shop. If we had known that info we would probably have taken the longer boat trip. Basically, they can’t control the rain but they did nothing to deal with the fact that it was pouring and very cold.

We appreciate your feedback and wish the weather would have been better on the date you traveled. The Glacier Quest Cruise is only 3.75 hours for future guests planning their trip, while the 26 Glacier Cruise is 5.75 hours. The coach service accommodates both cruises.

Getting up close to the glaciers is pretty exciting. Unfortunately, I originally booked the Glacier Quest which was supposed to be 3.5 hours but was told it was not running that day and upgraded to the 26glaciers which was 5.5 hours. Would have preferred the shorter one as this is too long.

Dear Michael, Thank you for booking our Glacier Quest Cruise. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed seeing the glaciers. They are quite spectacular and there are only a few places in the world with such a large concentration of glaciers that can be accessed easily and viewed closely from the water. We are sorry we weren't able to accommodate you on the tour you originally booked. However, we offered all guests a complimentary upgrade to our 26 Glacier Cruise 5.75 hours), or they could reschedule the Glacier Quest Cruise (3.75 hours) for another date. If these options didn't work, we also offered guests the opportunity to cancel and receive a full refund. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Alaska.
