The slave cabins and house tour were very good. We did not care for the Goolah experience. We wanted to do the wagon tour, but there was not enough time. Instead of a 2:15 return, it should have been 3:15. The driver was excellent.

This was worth the drive to get here. Took about 30 minutes from Charleston, we had to go over the big bridge which had views for miles. The plantation itself was well kept, had the classic tree lined drive and lovely mansion house. This plantation was recommended because everything was included for the price of admission which isn't true of all the plantations you can visit. We had a wagon ride pulled by a tractor with a guide which took us all over the farm, through the woods and fields. Then we had a tour of the mansion house which was only the 3 large rooms on the first floor but gave a flavor of the way the plantation owners lived as they got wealthier. The slave buildings were all individually curated to show different aspects of slave life, finishing up with a presentation by a Gullah woman who sang and shared an interesting history. This is still a working farm and that made it even more interesting.

Pretty good spend of an afternoon. Be sure to do the house your first to leave time for the rest. Slave houses/presentations were cool to see, but frankly not as cool as I was hoping. So much info is available on line these days, I find that actual visits doesn’t result in new information. Read up on Gullah culture before going … not nearly as much is presented as is available.
