What To Expect
1
Ghosts & Gravestones
Step aboard the trolley of the doomed and join your host, a 17th-century grave digger, cursed with a sentence of eternal damnation. This wretched creature is doomed to travel the streets of Boston and relay the stories of the unfortunate souls he encountered and the macabre events he had been witness to during his purgatory. Hear about Boston's most sinister characters - from the Angel of Death to the king of all killers - the Boston Strangler. Learn about all the haunts that call the "Hub" their home. But that's not all! Step inside two of the oldest burying grounds in Boston for a walking tour you will never forget. Learn the significance of much of the imagery found in these 17th century burial grounds and the famous and not so famous (but even more interesting) occupants therein. Visit Copp's Hill Burying Ground in the North End, nestled atop the tallest point in one of Boston's oldest historic districts. Here you will visit the final resting place of Cotton Mather, a man famous for his "intimate" involvement with the Salem Witch Trials. Then to the Granary Burying Ground where you will visit the final resting places of many of the famous heroes of the American Revolution including John Hancock, Paul Revere and Samuel Adams. Remember that half of the tour is walking, so comfortable shoes are recommended (so you don't become "dead" on your feet)!

We make it a point to go on a supernatural tour in every city we vacation in. Prior to booking I speak with the tour group. I make sure they are aware of our mobility issues and ask about the length and distance involved. We can and have kept up with every group before this one. We were assured being a trolley tour we would be fine. So I booked the tour. $90.25 was a reasonable fee. On par with previous tours. We had great difficulty finding the trolley. It was simply our unfamiliarity with the city. I wish i remembered the name of the young lady in the office who stuck with us by phone. She went above and beyond. The trolley was under the control of a costumed actor who narrated the tour in character. He was average for the different tours. The very first walk away involved a hill so steep we could not keep up with the other huffing and puffing members of the tour. Once at the grave yard we welcomed the chance to catch our breath. I approached the guide and askes him to slow down a little he looked as I was asking for a grand favor. Please know we appreciate the time constraints of tours, however the time spent with a number of people kidding around and checking them in with multiple employees should also be used as a cusbion for any brief delays in the guide's return It is unfortunate the cemetaries area wwere so dark it was impossible to read the stones. Here our guide began to warm up. His story was well rehearsed and be stuck pretty much to script only interrupting to make comments meant to engage our group. This graveyard was followed by a hurried walk to another location where he continued with his script. Eventually we reached the second graveyard where a young woman (Bree i think) entertained us with a improved version of a script. She made sure the history was covered and left the group smiling. Finally the dash back to the trolley. Having expected the tour to be mostly driven it was a relief to be back on board as we returned to the start of the tour. All and all the misunderstandings began with the calls to the office pre booking, leaving us exhausted and physically in pain. Its rare that we give one of these tours less than a solid "good" rating. But this particular tour rates it. Had it taken just 10 minutes more we may have given a very high rating. This is NOT a tour for anyone with mobility challenges. A wheelchair would have allowed participation to all but the very, VERY steep hill. And that would have been just fine with us. We did tip $20.00 hoping both the driver and Bree would get a portion of it.
