All and all we had a good time, but this seems to be a bit of a hit and miss.
We are very glad to have switched trolleys so that we ended up with Matty as our driver/guide, because he knows his stuff and told an entertaining and informative story through the tour.
We are three friends visiting from Sweden and were all looking forward to a guided tour about the history of Boston and all the sites. However our first guide, a 72 year old man, kept mumbling his own personal sports anecdotes, occasionally mentioning the history of Boston in passing by: “yeah, so this is where the big battle took place” without mentioning anything about which battle or when or how or anything of interest.
So we are very happy that we got off that trolley and onto the next one and got a new guide, Matty, who cared for the tour and for us onboard. Since the drivers basically work for tips we of course made sure to tip Matty well, where as the previous driver although we lasted onboard from stop 1 through 6 we just couldn’t tip him anything.
But after the change of guides/trolleys we are now very happy with this tour and hopefully a review like this will get CityView Trolley tours to keep a closer eye on their guides, since the price of this ride is a rather steep $41.
