Guide was inexperienced or not knowledgable on Boston history and didn’t give much info on every stop. Didn’t realize how bad until we took two other tours the next two days ( Duck tour and Ultimate Food Tour) that were 15 % or less of the cost of this tour and the information and experience was vastly superior. Guide literally told us Boston is not a foodie town and dissed the Prudential observation deck experience ( the ViewBoston). We have thoroughly enjoyed some top restaurant fare and don’t miss the View Boston we thought it was super cool if you love geography and amazing views.

Hello Randall, thank you for your message. I am very shocked with your message. This tour was on Friday Oct 13 tour with Roberta. First I want to say that the Duck Tour is a scripted tour, completely different from a private tour. The Duck Tours have lots of corny jokes and blowing of duck whistles-better suited for people that want a loud ā€œfunā€ time. The info is not completely accurate either , if you want a historically accurate tour. But great if you want entertainment. I am not familiar with this particular food tour, but those are more about food and not history. Again you can’t compare a food tour to a city tour. It sounds like you were looking for a fun time and not a serious tour. The Prudential Deck experience has only been open for a couple months. It is an observation deck to see the view of Boston from above. Same as any other observation deck. There have been some problems with it. This past week, a group had tickets for 8pm and when they arrived, there was a sign that it was closed that night. No call to company that booked it for group and people on tour were livid. They have some problems to fix up before I feel it is safe for a group to go there. I don’t think they would have been enthralled if they encountered a unexpected closure or had ever been to an observation deck before. Roberta has been a guide for us since May 2017 which is 6.5 years. From 1975-2019 she was the Dean of the Hospitality Department at a Boston college, and also a professor, teaching courses about Boston for students interested in being tour guides, hotel and restaurant managers, etc. I have not had any bad reports about her. She was also an excutive at Legal Seafoods and helped to expand it to being a country wide highky regarded seafood restaurant. You can google Legal Seafoods on Wikepedia. It has been awarded such awards as Best Seafood Restaurant in America. She is well known to all the better restaurants in Boston and is a board member of the American Institute of Food and Wine. She is definitly a foodie. And she is correct, that Boston is not known as a ā€œfoodieā€ city as compared to many others. That doesn’t mean we don’t have good restaurants here. Boston is never in the top lists of best foodie cities in Boston. See the lists below from Travel and Leisure and Insider. Boston does not even appear in the top 25 . https://www.travelandleisure.com/best-food-cities-in-the-us-7254754 https://www.insider.com/best-cities-in-the-us-for-foodies-2019-10#1-portland-oregon-25 So I don’t know what to say . It seems obvious that you liked the other type of tours better. Looking for a good time and not a private tour experience. Roberta said it went well, she took you to Harvard and some other places in Boston that would not be covered on the Duck Tour or Food Tour they were doing. I don’t know how they would know it was not a good route. There are only so many ways to do a tour in Boston, especially if you are skipping the center of the city, which you would cover on the Duck Tour and with all the one way streets. She said that you gave her a good tip, so she is surprised at your report.. Please let me know if you need anything.

Our private tour was well worth the money. Elizabeth, our guide, was super nice and very knowledgeable. She took us to places we never would've thought to visit. Our driver, Mohammed, navigated the crazy Boston streets with ease and our van was roomy and very comfortable for our group of 9 people. Thank you for a memorable experience.
