Box Canyon ATV Tour in Florence, Arizona

Overview

The Phoenix Tucson Box Canyon Tour happens in Florence, Arizona, about halfway between Tucson and Phoenix on State Route 79. Driving time from either city is approximately 1.5 hours depending on your location.

Our trail is about 34 miles in length and about 3.25 hours in duration. Elevation gain and descent is over 1500 vertical feet as we climb up and over the front range of the Pinal Mountains.
Along the tour your guide will point out Indian petroglyphs left over from the ancient Native Americans. Another point of interest is an old adobe building that served as a way station for the Butterfield Overland Stage Coach Company during the 1860’s Express on what was know as the “Butterfield The real highlight of the tour is Box Canyon.
The middle 3 miles is slot canyon with walls that are about 1500 feet high on both sides and only about 15-20 feet apart in some places. The scenery is incredible!

Single ATV Riders Drivers must be minimum of 15.5 years old with learners permit or valid drivers license.
Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes
Guests must driver to meet our guide(s) at the Trail head directly for start of tour - there is not a physical address but the nearest physical address is: River Bottom Grill 2501 N HWY 79, Florence, AZ 85132. Then the meeting place is on Price Stanton Rd which is nearby and once they turn onto Price it's about 3/4 of a mile on the right side of the road.
Singles hold 1 person - if wanting to ride 2 people on one quad - please call company directly.

We did the Box Canyon tour with Ray. We booked over the phone with Liz, who was a pleasure to deal with and patiently answered my questions. My husband and I did the tour with our sons, aged 12 and 16. My 16 year old drove his own ATV while my other son rode with my husband. We all had a great time!!! Not super rugged terrain, but some spots where you had to pay attention, and there were sections where Ray led us to drive at a good clip. We have never traveled through the desert before, so seeing the landscape was beautiful. We also saw a scarlet kingsnake (not venomous), deer, and a group of pavelinas (a small pig-like mammal). My only 2 issues were that the engine got super hot and it was somewhat uncomfortable to have my calves close to it (there were red patches on my calves for about 24 hrs). Also, about halfway through our way back, I started to feel a bit nauseous (and so did the other mom on our tour, although the men and kids/teens were all fine). We were given lots of cold water and small chocolate bars throughout the tour, but the heat (almost 4 hours in full sun and 100*F temps) and bumping along got to me. Once I was in the car with the air conditioning on, I was fine in about 10 or 15 minutes, so no big deal. Did not detract from our fantastic desert adventure! I would recommend this trip to anyone in a heartbeat.

Perfect little adventure. We had a great time. The scenery was gorgeous, and the ATVs were in great working order. Our guide was excellent as well.

We took the Florence, AZ tour through Box Canyon with our family of four! It was tremendous fun for all of us with great sites and an awesome tour guide in Ray! I totally recommend this excursion!
