What To Expect

Brooks Falls

The Air Taxi flight is approximately 1.5 hours each way and you will spend approx 3 hours on the ground as the pilot waits for you to complete your trip! (weather can affect time on ground) If you are looking for the iconic bear catching jumping salmon then this is the trip for you! The trip begins with a float plane flight to Brooks Camp in Katmai National Park. Once we land on the lake you will go to the visitor center for a Bear Etiquette film and briefing given by the Rangers at Brooks Camp, next you hike to the falls and view bears from the safety of platforms built by the National Park Service. The main falls platform is about a 1.5 mile walk from the Visitor Center. You walk at your own pace here and there are outhouses and other facilities..

The flight was breathtaking—glaciers, volcanoes, Cook Inlet. Excellent and friendly pilot. Saw too many bears to count—swimming, fishing, running, playing. Several sets of moms and cubs. Very suitable for my 78 year old mom and teenage son. Highly recommend this outfit and experience.

We signed up to go to Katmai National Park through Adventure Air out of Homer, Alaska. We went by Seaplane. It was truly an amazing experience that I would do again and again. The staff was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. We flew across Cook Inlet to Katmai. We had about 3 hours at Katmai to walk to the Brooks Falls and see the bears. We saw at least 12 brown bears feediing at once and several more near by. Wow. Just wow! Even better for us, it was near the end of the season so it was not crowded at all. Early August was a perfect time to go. Amazing. Breathtaking, and Incredible.
