Overview

Enjoy the beauty and excitement of Browns Canyon National Monument on a half day whitewater rafting tour down the Arkansas River. Your guide will go over safety procedures, paddling techniques and tell you about the area’s unique history, flora and fauna. This tour departs directly from the River Runners Browns Canyon outpost, a riverside property just south of Buena Vista, Colorado. Transportation is provided from the take-out at Hecla Junction back to River Runners. All gear is included in the price of the trip. Choose from 10 am and 2 pm departure times (check-in is 45 minutes prior).

There are inherent risks with whitewater rafting. All participants must assume that risk. Everyone will need to read and sign a waiver/release form. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on the form.

I’ve done two rafting trips with River Runners and both have been great. The guides were fantastic—both did a great job balancing safety with making sure that everyone had a great time. Although I’m sure the composition of my group (1 adult, 1 young teen, and 2 kids) presented something of a challenge, they handled it incredibly well. Their facilities and check in process were very easy and their equipment (rafts, wet suits, busses, etc) was good. Non-guide staff members were also great—Very friendly and helpful. It took a bit of a drive to get to the location, but compared to another rafting trip I have been on, that time was made up by having a relatively short bus ride and only having to ride the bus one way (at the end of the rafting trip). The drive was also a pretty easy drive for a mountain route and it offered some great scenery. River Runners will be the first place I consider when doing a Colorado rafting trip.

My husband and I went on a half day afternoon trip in July 2020, and we had a remarkable time. I have only had one other rafting experience and my husband had never been rafting before. The staff make sure that you are safe and comfortable with the protocols if you exited the vessel. William was our river guide (or facilitator of fun) as he calls himself. He was knowledgeable and skilled in rafting and made sure that we had a wonderful time. He explained the steps for maneuvering the raft as well. I would highly recommend this company, and we would definitely take another trip in the future. At the end there is an opportunity to purchase photos from the photographer to showcase your excursion.

I highly recommend white water rafting with river runners! My husband, 12 year old daughter, and I did the 1/2 day trip and absolutely loved it! It was beautiful, relaxing, exciting, and so fun! Our guide Caleb was the best and made the trip even better! You definitely need to use River Runners if you are near the Buena Vista area! They had everything you needed (at no extra cost) such as booties (If you didn’t have water shoes), splash jackets, etc. We also enjoyed lunch afterwards at the Riverside Grill!!
