What To Expect
1
Mount Rushmore National Memorial
The bus departs at 9am and heads for Mount Rushmore! You will have a little over an hour to look around at your own convenience and enjoy the sites and beauty that you came to South Dakota for. We stop here first because Mount Rushmore is at it's best in the morning sun. Gutzon Borglum carved this mountain facing east towards the morning sun and intended it to be viewed this way.
2
Iron Mountain Road
After leaving Mount Rushmore we will travel along the Iron Mountain Road. A beautiful 17 mile road of breath taking scenery featuring 3 one lane tunnels that perfectly frame Mount Rushmore.
3
Custer State Park Resort
We stop for lunch inside Custer State Park at the Game Lodge and previous summer White House for president Calvin Coolidge. Try the Buffalo Stew, it's the best you will ever find!
4
Needles Highway
After lunch we depart for the Needles Hwy. This 14 mile scenic drive is sure to leave you breathless and awe struck at amazing beauty of the Black Hills. Sit back and enjoy the ride and watch the crowd gather around when we drive the bus through the Needles Eye Tunnel. With only inches to spare on each side of the bus you can relish in the fact that you are not the one driving.
5
Sylvan Lake
Take a rest stop and coffee break at the beautiful Sylvan Lake. This is among the crown jewels of Custer State Park and the beauty within it.
6
Crazy Horse Memorial
We spend about an hour at Crazy Horse Memorial. You are on your own to spend this time enjoying this piece of history in the making. Upon completion it will be the largest mountain carving in the world! Truly a piece of awe inspiring history being worked on every day.

I was planning on driving to the separate attractions, Glad I took this tour. They took us to each destination and I could see the attractions instead of driving. The breakfast, tour, dinner and dinner show was Well Worth the Money. Fort Hayes has a new ride which my 14 year old and I truly enjoyed, a roller coaster and shooting at buffalo ride to see who was a better shooter.

Very mixed feelings. I loved what I saw and the knowledge of the tour director/ bus driver. Did not appreciate his Cornery jokes, references to religion and political parties, his laughing at his “jokes”. And self promotion of his “e-book” and post cards.

Our bus driver Ken made the whole trip wonderful, he is very knowledgeable and funny. Loved hearing about the places we were visiting. We had plenty of time at each stop. We bought their breakfast and it was good. Lunch you buy yourself at the Calvin Coolidge lodge on the mountain, the buffet was reasonably priced and the best food we’ve had on this trip. We did the Chuckwagon dinner and show after the bus tour. The chicken was delicious but the brisket was tough. The music show was fun and we stayed for the whole thing when we usually leave early on that kind of stuff. You won’t like the Chuckwagon show if you want it to be air conditioned, there is no AC. Also, we sat at picnic tables that were pushed up against each other, so if you don’t like being sat with people you don’t know this may not be for you. If you have back trouble, be aware there are no backs on the seats. They have drinks and dessert for sale at concessions but you get water, tea or lemonade included with meal and spice cake included with meal. All the people who worked there were super nice.
