What To Expect

Scargo Tower

An optional detour takes us past the fish-shaped Scargo Lake. According to Nauset legend, this lake was built by a great chieftain to comfort his daughter, who could not stop weeping over three dead fish. We'll also learn about the Nauset party who first spotted the Mayflower, and the fears they had about its approach.

Harwich

Another optional detour takes us to Harwich, a quaint Cape town known for its numerous beautiful beaches. If you fancy a swim, this is one of the best places on the Cape for it!

Bank Street Beach

Next, our Harwich detour will take us to Bank Street Beach, the perfect place to relax or dip your toes into the Atlantic.

Eastham

As we continue our drive, we'll enter Eastham, a perfectly picturesque little Colonial town. We'll also hear about the embattled first encounter between the Pilgrims and the Nauset, the daring assistance offered by Squanto, and the very first Thanksgiving, where the Pilgrims and Nauset celebrated a truce.

First Encounter Beach

Continuing down the Cape, we'll arrive at First Encounter Beach, where that dramatic skirmish between Nauset and Pilgrims took place. The beach now bears a plaque commemorating the encounter and the eventual truce.

Salt Pond Visitor Center

A little farther on, we'll arrive at the Salt Pond Visitor Center. This miniature museum is the perfect opportunity to catch up on some extra Cape history, use the bathroom, or just stretch your legs.

Nauset Light

As we continue our drive up the Cape, we'll spot the Nauset Light, the quaint little lighthouse that features in every quintessential Cape Cod photograph. We'll also learn about its importance, and how the Cape's rough waters earned the nickname of "ocean graveyard" before the lighthouse was built.

The Three Sisters Lighthouses

Continuing our drive, we'll come to three squat white lighthouses called the Three Sisters Lighthouses. What's peculiar about these lighthouses is that they're not on the coast at all! They're actually nestled among a thicket of trees pretty far inland. Hear about why that is, and how they came to be there. We'll also learn about how the Cape transformed from Nauset land to Colonial fishing towns, and then from fishing towns to a tourist hotspot.

Marconi Wireless Station

As we continue driving, we'll pass Marconi Station, the first radio station to ever send a wireless message across the Atlantic! The station also played a pivotal role in an infamous oceanic tragedy: the sinking of the Titanic in 1912. Learn how a radio station hundreds of miles away saved lives on that fateful day!

Pilgrim Spring Trail

As we continue driving, we'll pass the Pilgrim Spring Trail, a short hike which leads to one of the first places the Pilgrims came after landing on the Cape. Here, the weary travelers found their first freshwater spring--an essential find in helping them survive. Afterward, we'll continue on toward Provincetown.

Pilgrim's First Landing Park

Finally, we'll end up where it all began: the site where the Mayflower first struck land. Explore the park and imagine what it must have been like for the settlers, after ten harrowing weeks at sea, to step onto Nauset soil right here on November 11th, 1620. Our tour officially ends at this historic stop.

Pilgrim Monument And Provincetown Museum

On that corner, you’ll notice the beautiful town hall with its striking clock tower right away. I’ll come to that in a minute. If you look farther to the right of the town hall, you’ll see the most striking tower in the entirety of Cape Cod: the Pilgrim Monument.

Pilgrim's First Landing Park

As you can likely guess from its name, this is the location where the Mayflower first touched land after its journey across the Atlantic. Proud descendants of the pilgrims paved the memorial circle in 1917, and P-town residents have found other ways to mark the space since.

Wanted to spend a few days with mom and get her out of the house. With Covid she had been home forever and hasn’t really gotten out. After getting vaccinated I wanted to do something with her do I booked an overnight stay in Provincetown. I figured we could spend one day driving down and stopping along the way wherever we wanted and spend the night in Ptown and make our way back home to Boston the next day. I found this tour and thought it would be perfect. It was! I’ve been on the Cape many times and this took us to a few new spots I’ve never been but also gave us history on the places we’ve been a few times and just never knew. Kept us entertained for the day. I really enjoyed it.

If you’re planning a few more trips like this, you may enjoy our Cape Ann tour or Newport tours — or even our tours within Boston like Freedom Trail or Harborwalk! Fun trip through Cape Cod. The kids especially loved the Pilgrim stories. A little cold in the winter (don’t recommend all of the detours/trails) but we will be back in the summer and try them out. I would only suggest to the tour company that the tour begin at the Bourne Bridge end of Route 6 instead of in Hyannis.

Thanks for the suggestion for starting the tour at Bourne instead of Hyannis! We will definitely consider it. The only reason we haven’t done it yet is because it would basically double the size of the tour.

This tour was horrible! It ruined our day down here. It takes you to destinations and drops you off in the middle of the highway. The map doesn’t update to your location. If you don’t have a good co pilot it’s impossible to navigate the app and directions. We got so frustrated we just drove to PTown. I certainly wouldn’t waste your time on this !

We’re sorry about your experience! That’s definitely pretty strange. There are two red flags that stick out to me from this review — “dropping off on a highway” and “location not updating”. Our tour doesn’t end on a highway anywhere (in fact there are only two detours off Rt 6) and location-freezing is usually due to the phone. So it seems likely that the two issues are related to the same hardware problem. We’d love to be able to diagnose and reproduce the issue — could you reach out to us with your device type? We’d also be happy to offer a refund since you didn’t have an amazing experience.
