The Ramble

The lush Central Park woodland, known as the Ramble, is composed of 38 acres of winding pathways between 73rd and 78th streets. Described by Frederick Law Olmsted as a "wild garden", the Ramble's maze of trails amidst its abundant flora and fauna contrasts spectacularly with the formality of nearby attractions, such as the Bethesda Terrace. The Ramble is often noted for its bird-watching opportunities, where birdwatchers can catch a glimpse of some of the approximately 230 species found in the woods. Visitors can stop to take a look at the Gill, the man-made stream that runs through the Ramble.

Bow Bridge

Central Park's Literary Walk

"The Walkway of American Elms" – Stroll through the straight, tree-lined walkway known as the Mall, famous for its Quadruple Row of American Elm trees. This promenade is a gathering place for artists, musicians, and performers, providing a cultural, lively atmosphere that truly represents New York's diversity.

The Dairy Visitor Center and Gift Shop

The Dairy, a Victorian cottage designed by Calvert Vaux and built between 1869 and 1871, is at the heart of the Children’s District. As its name suggests, this charming structure was originally home to fresh milk and snacks for children and their caregivers. Families enjoyed refreshments under the Dairy’s loggia (open-air porch) and cool breezes from the nearby pond. The large rolling lawn in front of the Dairy provided a place for children to play. The Dairy became Central Park's first visitor center in 1979 and was one of the first Conservancy restoration projects in the early 1980s. At that time, the building’s historic and colorful loggia was restored, which had been removed in the mid-20th century.

What a delightful evening this was! I don’t care how many times you have visited Central Park, I promise you haven’t experienced it the way you will on this wonderful tour. Patrick’s passion for the park is contagious, and his knowledge and insights into the area are fascinating. Plus, there’s nothing quite like seeing the Manhattan Skyline, at night, mirrored in the waters of Central Park. It’s simply beautiful. A unique aspect of this particular tour is that Patrick knows all of the locations for perfect photo opportunities and will take many pictures of you as you make your way through the tour. Afterwards, in something completely unheard of today, he sends you an edited file of your photos, free of charge! We have been to NYC more times than I can count, and this was absolutely one of the more enjoyable experiences we’ve had.

I cannot say enough about this tour! Our guide, Brad, was fantastic! So friendly, personable and knowledgeable about all things Central Park and NYC. As a native New Yorker, he knew so much about the history of the park making it come alive. And an extra special touch was all the pics he took of us in all the breathtaking views of the park and city capturing memories to last a lifetime. Book this tour! You won’t regret it!

The Central Park After Dark Tour is one of the best tours I've taken in a long time! Our tour guide, Patrick, was knowledgeable, fun, and has a clear love and passion for his city and the role the park plays within it. Having visited the park a few times before, it was fun to learn so many new things about the history and evolution of the park throughout its existence. We walked away from the tour with a newfound understanding of the park's history, a few restaurant recommendations, as well as some great pictures to remember the experience by! I highly recommend taking this tour! You will be glad you did!!
