What To Expect

Central Park Zoo

The zoo is open every day of the year and features three major biomes: the Tropic Zone, Temperate Territory, and the Polar Circle. From tropical birds, to snow leopards, grizzly bears, and one of the nation’s largest colonies of Antarctic penguins, there are animals to enjoy in every season. We also feature the Tisch Children’s Zoo, a playful adventure for our youngest guests who’ll encounter goats, sheep, some of the world’s most unique ducks, and the only cow who calls Manhattan home. Our goal is to inspire our visitors and connect them to the plight of animals in the wild and the conservation work we’re doing to protect them.

Phenomenal! Animals seem healthy and well taken care of with space to play. However the penguins are stinky though very very cute.

What a wonderful plan for a pandemic-era outing. The staff were available, aware, and present to help us navigate. Hand santizer is available and well-placed throughout the zoo, and I only saw a handful of people with masks around their chins (unfortunately, it still happens). Enclosed areas are monitored and the number of people is capped. All animals appeared healthy and safely cared for (clearly I'm no expert, but there were no glaring red flags). I'm so glad we still have these places to bring our children, at least for now.
