Charleston History and Hops Tour: Bar and History Walk

Overview
Come live the Local Life with Captain Bryan or Guide Adam Moore! This experience is for guests who enjoy sipping their way through a new city full of history. This is not a classic "sit there and shut up tour" but an opportunity to engage with a local. The licensed guide will meet guests at the initial bar establishment and receive a small complimentary snack and the opportunity to purchase some of the areas finest beers/ mixed drinks while the guide goes over the historical roots of the city. From there guests will walk the historical alley ways and cobblestone streets of Charleston to several cultural sites included a dungeon, the original city theater, and 300 year old homes. A second bar will be the site of another drink opportunity where the guide will relate stories specifically regarding the Prohibition era in Charleston and its affect on the populace. Towards the end of the experience guests will find themselves in a local park along the waterfront. Come live the local life!

We booked The History & Hops Tour on a whim when it popped up as a suggestion on Trip Advisor. After booking I saw another tour that touted itself as ā€œthe original bar crawl,ā€ and for a split second I second guessed myself if I should have booked that one. I called the History & Hops tour number to confirm that they were even still running due to Covid, and Bryan answered immediately and assured me everything was up & running & they were taking all the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe & healthy. Immediately after talking to Bryan, I knew I made the right choice booking this tour. He was so personable & nice, his enthusiasm exuded through the phone. The day of the tour, Bryan called my cellphone with very clear & concise instructions on how to find him, where to go, and the best parking options. We found this to be a nice touch & very helpful. Upon our arrival, Bryan had a hot appetizer waiting, as well as a drink menu & he was a wealth of knowledge with each suggestion. He had masks & sanitizer, and even explained the most effective way to distribute the appetizers among ourselves and the other couple who were also doing the tour. We went to several local spots & Bryan emphatically explained the history behind each stop, always allowing us to ask questions & offering to tailor any information to our individual interests. After the tour Bryan sent us a message with all of his personal recommendations for food & entertainment in the area, which was another very nice added touch. We learned (and drank) so much during our time with Bryan! We can not recommend him and this tour enough. It was a very nice, intimate & personable time. Bryan went above & beyond to accommodate us. Do yourself a favor and book this tour!

Picked this up on Living Social to do when my daughter was visiting. It wad well worth the money. Adam and Capt. Bryan know their history and makw it interesting. Their pick of pubs and appetizers added to the experience. It was a cold and windy day but it did not take away from our experience. Charleston is a great place for a walking tour and this was fun and informative. I would definately recommend. Not for young kids tho.
