Carriage can transport up to 16 passengers per departure.
Children 3 years and under are free provided that they sit on the lap of a parent or guardian. If you want your child to have a seat, you must purchase a child seat.

Public carriage tours are seated up to 100% capacity, full capacity consists of up to 16 passengers with 4 guests seated per row.

What To Expect

Old South Carriage Company

Our stable is where your tour experience will begin and end. After checking in you can say hi to our draft horses, watch an educational video, purchases a bottle of water, or use our restroom. As you board your carriage via our inclined ramp / easy loading platform, your certified tour guide will greet you.

Charleston City Market

After leaving our stable, your carriage will stop at the City gate near the Market, where a route is assigned by the City of Charleston. Our industry is governed by this system in order to disperse the carriage traffic more evenly throughout the city. Your tour will cover about 30 blocks and 300+ years of history. Though specific landmarks vary by route, all tours pass by sights that give Charleston its unique charm – custom wrought iron gates, well-manicured gardens, historic mansions with picturesque piazzas, and the many church steeples of the “Holy City.”

Absolutely fantastic historical and architectural tour of Old Charleston! Our driver was David and our horse was Jack. David has encyclopedic knowledge of Charleston architecture and pointed out more details than we can remember but many of them stuck and it was all fascinating. We did a tour with this company five years ago and we were delighted that it was just as good as we remember. A must for anyone visiting Charleston!!

My wife and took the history tour and the haunted carriage tour. Both times we had Ben and Big Mac as our city guides.Ben was very informative and a great guide with a great sense of humor. Big Mac the horse was also great and was full of hot air adding to the experience. I will say it was a great experience and we would definitely go with them again.

Tom and his horse Eli gave a wonderful tour of The Battery, Rainbow Row, and the French Quarter - we hit the jackpot! We’ve been on several carriage tours over the years, but Tom’s knowledge of the city (he’s a native) and his excellent presentation of interesting facts made this tour superb. Highly recommend!
