Charleston’s Strong Women of the South History Tour

Overview
The Strong Women of the South History Tour is an exploration of historical Charleston from the perspective of the founding mothers and women of every color who contributed to our Great American Dream. Along the way, you will discover the beautiful truth: Charleston is the matriarchal capital of the western world, a city once owned and controlled by women.

Our exploration begins at the alleged execution site of America's First Female Serial Killer. We stand in the spot where she met her fate and hear her story. Then, you get to decide: was she really a serial killer or a woman protecting her rights!

Next, we visit the homes and sites of the “Old Maids," Women’s Rights Activists, Printers, Artisans, Madams, Shopkeepers, and Plantation owners while discovering their contributions and conundrums, all written over by modern history.

Last, we visit the homes and shops of the women who built this great city.

It was a blazing hot day, but Larry's energy could not be squelched! We walked around Charleston for 2 hours and he held me captivated with stories of the incredible women that helped build Charleston and America to what we know it today. I spent my remaining time in Charleston continually telling family members (and total strangers) about all the interesting things I learned on this tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in learning about people who history may not have recognized for their incredible contributions and achievements.

Wonderful stories about "lesser known" women of Charleston. It was HOT summer day and Larry really looked out for us with the style of tour he led.

Larry was a great tour guide with a great knowledge about Charleston, SC. He was able to tell us a lot about the women that help to make Charleston the town that it is.
