Most of the tours highlight major events in this historic city.

This tour is specifically designed about women and the history that has not been told. The tour is for everyone. It is slightly over a mile walk through the oldest neighborhoods in the city.
We will focus on the following:

What happened to the women when the men went to war?
How did women survive during the occupation of the British troops?
How did widows, with multiple children manage to keep a roof over their head with no income?
How did they manage businesses when they had no experience?
These questions and more will be answered when you go on this tour.

What To Expect

Charleston

This walking tour will highlight Charleston’s most innovative ladies. Their contributions, woven into the fabric of Charleston, are just waiting to be told. We will focus on the old historic streets of Charleston, King Street, Meeting Street, Tradd Street, South Battery, and White Point Gardens. Learn about Charleston from the perspective of the women who took part, but were never recognized. The story of these women is a story about all of us. It’s told to you by me, Leah Middleton, whose family goes back over 350 years in Charleston. It is my mission to tell their stories.

The Women's History Tour is an absolute must! Had a blast and learned so much about these unsung heroes of Charleston. The owner is professional, engaging, and offers a wealth of knowledge many other local tours simply cannot compete with. Outstanding!

Hands down the best tour in Charleston!!! I can't say enough good things about the tour and guide. Guide is experienced and you can tell she not only really knows the history, but absolutley loves what she does. Tons of really interesting stories about the people and places of Charleston. If you only have time for one tour during your stay(we took 6) this is the one!

The tour was wonderful. There was so much information and history that I didn't know about...especially the women of Charleston...what they did to influence the culture of Charleston. There were a lot of strong women in Charleston in the last 300 years. I would go again. Leah was so knowledgeable about anything we asked - even off topic.
