Chicago Walking Tour: Historic Skyscrapers

Overview
Chicago is home to some of the world’s earliest skyscrapers. Get an up-close look at these 19th Century marvels, learn about innovations used to build them and discover how they transformed Chicago into a center of skyscraper design and engineering.

Highlights on this walking tour include Burnham and Root’s Rookery (1888), a transitional building with a Moorish and Romanesque exterior and a stunning interior atrium re-designed by Frank Lloyd Wright; Adler and Sullivan’s Auditorium Building (1889), a masterpiece of acoustical and structural engineering; and Holabird and Roche’s Marquette Building (1895), an outstanding example of the metal frame expression with traditional details and decorations.

Had an excellent tour! My guide was amazing and extremely knowledgeable. We kept on schedule and saw everything we were told we would see. Easy walk around Chicago seeing the historical buildings and learning about the architecture.

Over 75% of out tour were from outside the United States,I thought it was in poor taste when the tour guide made several disrespectful comments and references about our President,Trump. This would never have been tolerated when Obama was President! The fact this level of disrespect is tolerated explains why this country is so divided. Give us facts not your political opinion!,,

A great walking tour of the skyscrapers of Chicago (it does what it says on the tin). Concerntrating mainly on the external building, there are a few very worthwhile internal visits. Althought one can be awed by the skyscrapers even without a tour, this adds SO much more value for your time. I would also recommend it for the time poor and I would happily do this again. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes.
