Chinatown Culinary Walking Tour

Overview
There are two Chinatowns, one that you see from a van or bus, and the one that can only be experienced on foot in the back alleys, food markets, and local restaurants.

One Chinatown, the one from the bus, is interesting. Our Chinatown will surprise you with new adventures around every corner. In our Chinatown, artisans form Fortune Cookies by hand. In our Chinatown, artisans practice their craft in small alleys using techniques handed down for thousands of years. And in our Chinatown, the authentic cuisine will enliven your senses with new flavors, smells, and aromas.

We'll explore exotic and unique Asian produce, herbs, and teas from the very people who know them best. We'll uncover their hidden secrets only intrepid locals know. And you'll be astonished by the new finds in secret alcoves.

We'll spend about three hours eating everything from Dim Sum, fortune cookies, teas, and more.

Great tour with amazing food stops included. Our tour guide (Brian) was very immersed in the culture, enough to be on a first name basis with many of the restaurant and store owners I specifically enjoyed the variety this tour included. We were able to learn about cooking techniques, visit a religious temple, and discuss how the history of Chinatown SF built the life for those the population that lives there. The food choices were fantastic and introduced me to a few dishes I had never heard of before. Surprisingly though my favorite stops were focused on the history of Chinatown and Chinese culture. "San Francisco's Living Room" and a stop at a local tea shop offered more insight into a world within a city than I imagined a food tour ever could. I'll 100% recommend this tour to anyone and any group and would recommend a tour with Brian any day, any where.

When you have to roll back to your hotel you know it was good! My mom, aunt, and myself booked a tour and ended up with and amazing gal named Cynthia. We were so lucky because she called us to start our tour early, so we could experience something special in Chinatown (a great tea place). When we first met, she greeted us with a smile and a pork bun (now that's a way to start). We didn't even have to take 1 step and we were eating. It only got better from there. It was a leisure stroll filled with fun tidbits about buildings, murals, art, stories, and history. However, the focus was on the food. Cynthia did an amazing job at picking the most wonderful selection of flavors for us to experience. We visited 2 more places in Chinatown and then on to North Beach. I don't want to give away all of the special places, but let's just say you won't be disappointed. We took a night tour, so we ended at Mona Lisa Restaurant. We met the 4th generation owner here and it was clear that there was a relationship with Cynthia and Local Tastes. We hit it off so well and ended up staying there long after out tour ended.

Really enjoyed Robert’s tour. The mix of culture and food was perfect. The right amount of food in the right amount of time. One surprise highlight was the tea tasting. Loved every stop.
