A superb experience, exceptional guide, a college professor no less who was very personable and made the gilded age of New York society come alive. This was our favorite tour which began at the Plaza Hotel with the Oak bar visit of Hitchcock film fame and on north to Carnegie fabulous mansion. Bring your walking shoes and prepare to be enchanted

This was a great tour. I couldn't believe it when I looked at my watch and two hours had gone by. Lots of interaction with our questions and fun history tidbits. Our guide clearly has a passion for his subject. We did the gilded tour which started at the plaza. The inside story of the Eloise books. The transition from park avenue mansions to hotel living for the rich and famous. And especially the efforts made by our guide and other prominent New Yorkers to keep the plaza from becoming another modern glitzy mall! Inspired us all with seeing the results of activism for historical preservation! Lots of stories about the ruthless barons who became philanthropists later in life, perhaps worried about their afterlife? Or just their reputations. Carnegie, Frick, Vanderbilts, and many more were included as we viewed their former homes and lives along Central Park. It would have been fun to just sit and listen but was even better to walk along and live in the past for while. We are hoping to do the Founding Fathers tour on our next visit!

I recently went on the "Gildes Age" tour and was so impressed by both our tour guide's knowledge and how much there was to learn about a city I thought I knew well! As we walked down 5th avenue, we were transported back to a world of high society and "old money" and got a glimpse of how the other half lived (and to some extent still live). From the informative descriptions of the architecture to the guide's personal anecdotes, the world of the Vanderbilts, Rockerfellers, Carnegies and so many more came alive over the course of two delightful hours. Would recommend this tour company to anyone with a love of history or who just wants to learn a little bit more about the great city of New York. Can't wait to try another of these tours the next time I'm in town.
