We have previously done the Circle Line cruise and enjoyed it. However this time we wanted something different, so we went for the harbour lights cruise this time. Who wouldn’t like to enjoy the skyline with lights on it, right? We even paid extra for the premier tickets, cause we wanted to do it just right. Boarding was fine, and the chairs were comfortable. However, the boat leaves at 7 pm which is way to early for the city to have its lights on. Darkness fell the last half hour of the cruise, but the more expensive premier seats were located on the side of the boat that faced New Jersey. So if we wanted to see the skyline by night, we had to leave our seats, and obviously there were none available elsewhere on the boat by then. We circled the Statue of Liberty. But even then the lights had still not come on, so she was a sad sight in the dusk. And 10 minutes after we left, we could see back at her having the lights turned on. We just didn’t get to enjoy it due to the poor timing of Circle Lines. The cruise should have left at 8 pm and the premier seats should have been on the other side. The cruise in itself is nice. But DON’T pay for Premium seats and go by day. Because “harbour lights” is a scam. Check out my photo if you don’t believe me. And that was on the way back from the turn at UN HQ.

The cruise is lovely! We got great photos of the NYC skyline. Unfortunately we bought our tickets through the Viator website. We found out on the night of the cruise that the "tickets" were not actually tickets. They were a "voucher" to claim tickets at the Harbor Lights ticket office. There was a huge line up at the ticket office, and by the time we got to the front, we were told that the cruise was sold out for the night we were scheduled to take the cruise. Many other people in the line were also fooled by their "tickets" from Viator. Understandably so, because the thickets from Viator even had barcodes on them. Scam! Fortunately, the girl at the ticket office was able to issue us some tickets for the following night's cruise. Be sure to buy your tickets directly from Circle Line Cruise Company. Also, if you plan on buying alcohol on the cruise, they only take cash.

Got to the pier in NYC with 50 other people who purchased the voucher from Viator and we were all told the cruise was sold out and that Viator was not an authorized seller of their cruises, which I found out was incorrect. Very disappointing as it was a beautiful night for a cruise. Viator did promptly refund my money without a problem.
